Tempo Doeloe

The second part of our cycling tour through Bandung was mainly Tempo Doeloe! We passed some places known already since the Dutch time!

On Jl. Asia-Afrika we passed the sign were Governor Daendels in 1810 walked over a newly built bridge over the Cikapundung River and reach the KM O. point. This was part of his task to build "De Groote Postweg", to improve inter provincial communications.

Until the name was changed in Jl. Asia-Afrika in 1955 on the occasion of the Asian-Afrika conference, the name of the road was "De Groote Postweg".

On the same road, there are two hotels built during the Dutch time, which still exists. Both were visited by my Granddad in the twenties and thirties of the last century.
The first is the Grand Preanger, much bigger than in the old days!

The moved the entrance to the new building, actually on an other street. The previous entrance is now the backdoor. Inside you still see the old reception desk.

The other hotel is Savoy Hoymann, were I stayed myself eight years ago during our visit to Bandung. This hotel kept more of his old glamor, I think.
Prima told me that his father has worked for more than 30 years in the hotel.

We were allowed to have a look in the "Grand Ballroom" which was in preparation for a wedding later that day! The biggest wedding cake, ever seen: seven layers!

Our Tempo Doeloe tour ended in the old Dutch restaurant "Maison Bogerijen", nowadays better know as Braga Permai on Jl. Braga, where we enjoyed a great icecream.

We continued our cycling tour through Bandung and ended in Nuart Sculpture park with some beautiful sculptures.

The end of a great, but exhausting, cycling day!
Well organized Prima!
