Ciwidey

The last weekend together with Team CSC Indonesia 4, a good reason for ABV to invite us to go to Ciwidey, a place in the mountains where you can find strawberries and tea!

We left early to avoid the traffic as much as possible. Although the distance is only 58 km it took us almost 3 hours to go to the first stop in Ciwidey. It took us that long because the battery of the car was dead and the car wouldn't start after we had a short stop. The rest of the day the boys had to push the car if we couldn't park downhill to get it started!

Kawah Putih "white crater" is the first stop of the day. Even before you could see the lake you already smell the sulfur and it literally took my breath away, the masks couldn't avoid it. It is a beautiful almost white lake where hardly anything can grow. Mainly dead trees, which gives it a special ambiance.

Due to the smell you cannot stay long!

Ciwidey is situated in the mountains, reasonably higher than Bandung, which you notice driving up. The climate is apparently very good for strawberry plantations.

In contrast to The Netherlands they do not plant them in the "cold" ground but in pots.

This makes it a lot easier to harvest!

My first self picked strawberry! I picked half a kilo and had it for breakfast the next day!
Pesticide free and less than 3 Euro for a kilo!
On the touristic spots they sell all kind of strawberry products, from sweets to backpacks!

This morning we visited another lake. On our way to the lake we drove through the tea fields!
Tea only grows in the higher areas. You recognize the tea fields by the clear rows of tea plants with a walking path in between. Unfortunately no "tea ladies" who where harvesting the tea. Probably because it is Sunday. The fields give some remarkable views!

The views invites families to pick-nick near to the tea fields, where they can enjoy the views!

The boat brought us to a little island where they sold strawberries dipped in chocolate with "hagelslag"!

Whole families enjoyed the island as well!

As the sky turned darker and darker we drove directly back to Bandung where we had a late lunch offered by ABV!
A nice closure of the weekend!
