Borobudur, Mendut & Prambanan

An early rise today as we want to visit the Borobudur early, to prevent the crowds. The weather was not superb, but at the other hand that was ok, at least it was not that hot.

Nowadays you have to wear a sarong when you enter the grounds, as a kind of respect!

We were lucky to be able to take pictues without people! Our award of being early!

Two stupa's are discomposed of their top. The majority of the heads of the buddha's in the stupa's are stolen. Via peepholes you can see eachother.

The sculptures tell the different stories of Buddha, but also just the normal Javanese life, at the time the temple was built, between 750 and 850 AD.
Some details are really kept well.

We spent three hours at the temple and visited all levels, and we had time to "play" a bit.

Three new Buddha's were born!

A few times we were asked to pose for a photo. This girl was happy to pose for me!

Outside the Borobudur grounds, a lot of sellers try to sell something to you. These two ladies wear the well known hats.

After the Borobudur we visited the Mendut, a small temple nearby. The Buddha statue inside is the reason to pay a visit!

The Mendut outside!

The Mendut inside!
Near the Mendut they sold food, Frank bought a coconut and Hans some local food!

Yammie!

For lunch we went to a restaurant with a silver factory next door! There they make the famous Yogja silver! We saw some workers working on it.

After lunch it was time to visit the Prambanan temples, which were heavily damaged during the earthquake in May 2006. The middle temple, the biggest, you had to wear helmets  against falling stones.
The restoration you can clearly see!

Also here some nice sculptures!

We stayed until sunset, with a beautiful red sky!

The temples gives a nice contrast against the sunset!

We had a beautiful, relaxed day!
Because we were tired we decided to have dinner in the hotel and go to bed early!
